Pressurized components such as pressure vessels, boilers, piping, valves and sealing elements are widely used in many branches of industry. Pressurized systems made up of these components are used for the conversion of energy or production of various kinds of materials, which meet the fundamental needs of our modern society. Depending on the processes used, the systems may work in harsh conditions such as high temperature, cryogenic, explosive, corrosive and toxic environments. System safety is crucial to the sustainable development of the industry and society in general. For various reasons, pressurized equipment and systems are rather costly to design and manufacture. Economics is therefore an important issue that has to be taken into account.
Currently there appears to be two trends in the development of science and technology: one is miniaturization and the other large scale system. In the Methodology, a multiscale approach has been widely recognized and used to tackle the system complexity. Although researchers have been active, for instance, in risk assessment of larger systems, reliability and durability of smaller components or systems, and crack tip behavior on the microscale, few journals in the field of pressure vessels and related technologies have fully covered the trends.
The Journal of Pressure Equipment and Systems is a window for The Chinese Pressure Vessel Institution. Aiming at the system safety in the context of multiscale, the Journal attempts to cover all science and engineering aspects of pressurized equipment and systems, with particular emphasis on the system and environment complexity. The Editorial Board sincerely hope that Journal of Pressurized Equipment and Systems will be indispensable reading for engineering professionals involved in the energy, petrochemicals, process plant, transport, aerospace and related industries; for manufacturers of pressurized equipment; and for academics pursuing research in these areas.
